If you’re looking for a chic beach getaway, then Tulum, Mexico is the place to be. There are so many Tulum hotels to choose from. And if you’ve never been to the city before, then doing your research online can be a bit difficult to determine where to stay in Tulum based on location. I’ll share with you the hotel we chose, why we chose it, and give you a few pros and cons along the way. Of course, I’ll share all of the details about the property and our AMAZING suite. If you have any specific questions at the end, feel free to leave a comment and I got you!
Finally, I’ll share some of the other Tulum hotels that we already have our eye on for our next stay in Tulum. Yes! We are already planning to go back. It was just that amazing!
Tulum Hotels Details I’ll share:
Tulum Hotels City Layout
Tulum is considered one of the most modern beach communities in all of Mexico. When choosing where to stay in Tulum, it’s all about the VIBE. I’ve found that each hotel is focused on giving you an experience when you first arrive until you leave. Yes, there are definitely Airbnb options to choose from in Tulum, but nothing beats top-notch customer service and access to amenities and activities that you will find at a boutique hotel.
The city is organized in three distinct areas in my opinion. There is the private beach area, where probably 90% of the photos you see on the ‘Gram are taken, there is the “public” beach area off Hwy 307 (where we stayed) and then there is Tulum Town.
Private Beach Area
The private beach area will have some of the most expensive Tulum hotels. It’s also called Beach Road or Hotel Zone. It is an extremely long road that is one way in and one way out. Most of the more popular beach club restaurants are located here. (I’ll share all of those hot spots in my next blog post: What to do in Tulum). There is a lot of foot and bike traffic in this area as well. Lots of cafes and places to walk and see. The pros are that everything is in walking distance. The cons are the cost and the busyness/noise. If you want to party and turn up the entire trip, stay here.
Public Beach Area
The “public” beach area is where we stayed. I put “public” in italics because I honestly don’t know why they call it a public beach. I found it more quiet and private than the hotels on Beach Road. This area has more upscale, boutique-like resort hotels. It’s quieter, less expensive than Beach Road and closer to the Mayan Ruins if that’s important to you. The pros are the privacy and quiet for a romantic getaway. The cons are you will have to take a taxi to the Beach Road where there are more hang out spots to enjoy. If you’re looking for a romantic or VIP-like treatment, stay here.
Tulum Town
And then Tulum Town is an area that we did not get to explore a lot of. But from what we saw and heard from the locals, it’s completely different from the beach area. It has a more cultural flavor and small street shops owned by the locals. Tulum town is way more budget-friendly than the beach areas if you don’t mind the commute to catch a taxi back and forth to the beach area and nicer restaurants. There is no Uber/Lyft in Tulum. The pros are the cost and local cultural immersion. The cons are the distance and lack of activities and nicer accommodations. If you’re looking for budget travel and a less touristy experience, stay here.
Our Tulum Hotel
During our stay in Tulum, we stayed at a luxury boutique hotel called, Jashita Tulum in the private beach area as I mentioned before.
Simply put, we chose Jashita Tulum because we wanted a true romantic vibe for our anniversary trip. We felt like celebrities the entire time. The staff’s attention to detail and friendliness really made the stay pleasant for us. The property is large enough to have multiple areas to explore, but small enough where the front desk knows you by name as you go in and out of the property.
Jashita Tulum has a spa, yoga studio, 3 outdoor pools, kayaking & paddle boarding accommodations, a bar-restaurant called Pandano that also provides room service, a dedicated pool bar and suites with private plunge pools. More on the suites later. ๐
This hotel was created for romance. It was quiet, secluded, and very private. We felt tucked away in our own little jungle hideaway…exactly how we wanted for our anniversary trip. Again, if you’re looking for the turn-up Tulum hotels, this isn’t it.
Next up, is the hotel’s one and only restaurant called Pandano. This was a very slight con to us because there was only one restaurant on property. But most boutique style hotels only have one, so we were ultimately okay with it. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give the restaurant an 8. The food was always fresh, served quickly and presented well. We’re just foodies and really like to eat, so I wish that there was a bit more of a variety overall. The menu was Mexican & Italian.
We were even able to enjoy a romantic dinner on the beach one night. We had steak, oyster mushrooms and roasted potatoes and lots of margaritas. It was delicious and very romantic. The owner of the restaurant even came down to our table on the beach to say hello.
We ordered room service a few times as well, and the service was still consistently fresh, fast and presented well. One of my favorite meals were the lobster pasta for an entree and warm strawberries and home made vanilla ice cream for dessert.
There are three pools on site. There is a family pool, which is the smallest pool. It is located near the restaurant. There is an adults only pool located near the beach. And then there is an adults only rooftop pool bar located above the villa building. We got a glimpse at the honeymoon suite on our way up to the rooftop pool because they were cleaning it and the windows were open and OMG!
Our Tulum Hotel Suite
Words can’t really describe how much we loved our hotel suite at Jashita Tulum. We stayed in the “Superior Deluxe Suite Tropical View” if you’re interested in booking this specific room type. Be sure to watch my YouTube video showing the complete inside of the suite and all around the property.
There were floor to ceiling enclosures for the shower and the most intoxicating aroma in the reed diffuser in the bathroom. I meant to ask the front desk what the name of the scent was, but I forgot. It was amazing.
The room was appointed with a TV with no cable, but access to connect your Netflix account. There was also free Wifi available…a bit sketchy at times, but you ARE in the middle of the jungle after all.
The room came with a mini bar, safe, robe and even beach towels in an extra large straw bag that you can use when you’re visiting the beach. We used this bag each time we left the room because it was large and sturdy enough to fit both of our things in it.
We had a wrap around balcony with panoramic views of lush greenery. It was just enough to still get a peak at the property and ocean and feel completely private all at the same time. The privacy came in handy for the outdoor shower and plunge pool on our balcony. Please believe that we took full advantage of this amenity! We couldn’t see anyone’s balcony. The landscaping was so perfectly manicured to give each suite their own privacy.
More Tulum Hotel Choices
As I mentioned at the beginning of the blog post, we are definitely planning to visit Tulum again. There’s just so much this fun town in Mexico has to offer…and we want to see it all.
Although we LOVED our stay at Jashita Tulum and highly recommend it to other couples looking for a romantic getaway, here are a few other luxury Tulum hotels that we have our eye on once we when we return and save up our coins. I am a planner by nature, so I naturally research ALOT and I’ve already done the vetting and leg work for you with these hotels below.

This was awesome. The hotel was gorgeous and so are the other options you shared. After reading Iโm thinking we may do half our stay public and half private to get a little bit of fun and relaxation in. ๐ค

Thank you so much for reading. I would totally recommend Tulum for just you and hubby. We saw very few families/kids during our stay. Cancun would likely be more “kid-friendly.” Or Cabo. We took our kids to Cabo San Lucas in 2019 had fun there!
