Whether youโre trying to plan a honeymoon, celebrating an anniversary, looking for a romantic getaway with your babe/boo/honey, or in our case, an after-babymoon, then you should definitely consider a Belize resort. And moreover, book with Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge in Belmopan, the capital city of Belize. It’s a gorgeous luxury jungle boutique resort in Belize that you will absolutely fall in love with. At least we did!
Traveling to Belize
We flew in to the Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport which is in Belize City, Belize, the largest city in the country. The airport was rather small, but had super quick and efficient customs process. We would have been in and out in 20 minutes, but someone (ahhhemmm…my hubby) wanted to stop and purchase some duty-free spirits at one of the airport shops.
Then again, there were so many shops giving out free samples that we (meaning him) just decided to go on a mini sampling spree before we headed to get our bags.
This was an after-babymoon for us. I was still nursing and had my breast pump in tow, so no spirits for me. Nonetheless, I was still pumped (pun intended) and ready to have a blast. Hmmm…maybe I’ll write up a blog post one day about pumping and traveling internationally. Mama’s gotta travel and have a life too, right?!
Things we LOVED about our stay.
Now for the good stuff! These are the top 5 things that we loved about our visit to Belize and specifically about our stay at the Belize resort, Sleeping Giant. I will go in to detail about each item to help you visualize your experience there and hopefully encourage you to book a flight to Belize…like yesterday! ๐
Private Transportation to our Belize Resort
Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge offered a scheduled, private transfer service from the airport to the property. And I’m so glad we reserved this service. Our driver was on time, courteous and even gave us mini history lessons on our 90 minute drive in to the property. He was very knowledgeable about landmarks along the way and did a great job, if I may add, getting us excited about our stay at this Belize resort.
Location is everything.
We were so excited about the location of this property. We booked it because of it’s unique surroundings. Belize is known for beautiful beach front hotels. But, we didn’t want a typical beach vacation this time around. We wanted an adventure. So we purposely selected a rainforest/jungle Belize resort…and boy did we get it!
If you’re looking for a party hotel, this isn’t it. The property was remote, quiet, private and secluded. Everything we were looking!
Photos really don’t do it justice. This view was unreal.
Our Favorite Amenities at the Belize Resort
The property was expansive and well-kept. There was beautiful, lush landscaping at every turn. And many decks and gazebos to steal away to as well. This Belize resort even offered kayaks to guests to explore the river on property.
The pool area had large cabanas and a hot tub. We never really utilized it though. We only passed by to take photos. It just didn’t make our priority list to visit. There was so much to see and do! Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge offers spa services as well.
Now, when it comes to the food, there is only one restaurant on property. But, it’s an award-winning restaurant with an amazing view! We ate all of our meals here during our stay and they even prepared some of our to-go lunches when we went on day trip tours. It’s field-to-table dining. So, they source they’re food from the farm there on property (more on that next), and from local villages and markets.
As I mentioned earlier, the restaurant has a farm on property. There were so many walking trails, surprise decks and gazebos, a suspension bridge, and even peacocks & ducks roaming the grounds.
Our Suite at the Belize Resort
Hands down, our suite was legendary! Talk about romantic! Whew!
There are only a few dozen suites on property which makes this luxury Belize resort a gem. They are so spread out over acres it seems. During our entire stay, we really only ever ran into housekeepers and the groundsmen. We never heard or saw any of our fellow “neighbors” until it was time to eat at the restaurant. And we loved that!
Sometimes, we wondered if we had the property to ourselves, it was just that quiet. Well, except for the rooster call that woke us up every morning. Lol.
The suites were gigantic! We had an outdoor pool on our balcony facing the river and jungle. And we spent lots of time out there. There’s a large bench and low table on the balcony for eating as well. The suites did not have TVs, but this is purposeful to help you connect with nature…and each other!
We also had an outdoor shower and bed in a separate section of our suite. Like I said, gigantic rooms! There was a ceiling fan over the bed and a floating steps over water just like the front entrance to our suite.
If you’re looking for romance, our suite at this Belize Resort had it all.
Local Tours offered by Belize Resort
And finally, this is where we made some sweet memories together! I’ll have to do a dedicated blog post just about the adventures we went on while staying at Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge. But, I’ll attempt to share a few here for reference. They were truly memorable!
The resort’s concierge service booked all of the tours for us! We only stayed 4 days/3 nights and could have literally booked a different tour everyday for two weeks if we had the time.
One of our favorite tours, was a day trip to Guatemala to visit the Tikal Mayan Ruins. This was a guided tour that included lunch and it was so worth the trip. I highly recommend it. There’s just so much rich history here to learn.
We also did a rigorous hike in the jungle to a waterfall atop a mountain. This was scary and exhilarating all at the same time. Would I do it again? Probably not. I just couldn’t conceive how high we would go up, and once we got to the top, I was immediately ready to get back to stable ground. Lol. It was HIGH!
Of course, I had to pose for a photo to remember this moment. Again, photos don’t do it justice. But it was such a treat to discover this waterfall literally in the middle of a jungle on top of a mountain. The water was fuuuureeezing and the rocks were super slippery, but it was a breathtaking sight.
Was this Belize Resort worth the trip?
YES, absolutely! The only true gripe was that we didn’t have great cell reception in our room, but duh…we are in the middle of the jungle. Luckily, there is free wi-fi in the reception area. So when we needed to call home and check on the kids, we had to walk to the front of the property to do so.
Overall, I give this Belize resort romantic getaway 5 stars and we would most certainly visit here again. I highly recommend it, so if Belize is on your travel bucket list, GO FOR IT. Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge definitely set the scene for an amazingly romantic getaway!
